Video

The movie is framed in a widescreen 1.85:1, but I have some bad news, the framing is wrong. The actors look a little fat, because the film was framed at 1.75:1 then squashed down to a 1.85:1, just like the Gupt, Kareeb and Pardes DVD. But the picture is very detailed and clear. there is no artefact and the picture colouring is just like what you watch on cinema. The only time the picture is grainy is when you taken to the desert. The average bit rate is quite high for a super digital DVd, as the film is on a double layer disc. It ranges from 4Mbit/sec to 8Mbit/sec. I would have preferred it if the film was compressed widescreen, that way the picture is automatically enhanced, but this film isn't so 30% of picture quality on widescreen TV's is gone. But the picture is still quite good on both 4:3 and 16x9 screens.

Sound

The sound has the upper hand. The 5.1 sound on my THX amplifier is just brilliant, it is spot on as the quality of the soundtrack hasn't been messed with by the authors. The sound is ambitious, and acts as a true home cinema demo. The sound stage felling I got from my JBL speakers was absolutely amazing, at times I had to turn around as the sound of the camels and drums made me feel I was there. This DVD has the best Hindi 5.1 sound so far. however if you have a weaker amplifier and speaker then the sound won't be as good, as this disc has so much to offer sound wise. So invest yourself in a decent 5.1 system.

Menu/Extras

Now let's talk about the DVD of this film. Well a moving menu appears ,with some clippings from the film, and the film score is heard in 5.1 sound. This is a first for Super digital, a moving menu. But it is not up to the standard you'd expect. They have to learn about this from looking at American and DEI menus. The plus side is that menu is easy to command. When you think about it this film could have had so many supplements, like the making of,interviews, designs, documentaries. All of these were seen on Zee, sony, Asianet. They could have placed them on this dvd and make us understand how the film was made, and the director intention, but there is nothing, just the typical, start movie, song selection, and coming soon.

Overall

If the picture was like the sound, then this would have been a killer DVD.
